Apple weighing up iPhone SE 4 display

Apple is still said to be weighing up its options ahead of the launch of the iPhone SE 4 in 2024, claims respected display analyst Ross Young. Apparently, the choice is between a 6.1-inch OLED display like the iPhone 14, or a cheaper LCD panel. In the case of the latter, there’s a range of size options between 5.7 and 6.1 inches. Previous rumours have suggested that Apple is ditching the old iPhone 8-like design of the current iPhone SE, and looking to resurrect the old iPhone XR design. That would mean goodbye Home button, hello display notch and Face ID.

Apple pauses App Store ad expansion

Apple recently launched a major expansion of its App Store ad placement system, but it swiftly met with criticism from app developers. Many objected to the appearance of gambling ads alongside their apps, or other more inappropriate inclusions such as adult-focused chat apps. This upswell of complaints prompted Apple to pull many of these new ads. “We have paused ads related to gambling and a few other categories on App Store product pages,” it said.

Super-sized 16-inch iPad tipped

Apple is rumored to be working on a huge 16-inch iPad, which could launch as soon as 2023. Reputable website The Information claims that this super-sized tablet could arrive around this time next year. To give some context to that claim, such an iPad would posses a screen the same size (though likely not the same aspect ratio) as the current MacBook Pro 16-inch. It would seemingly join the current 11-inch and 12.9-inch models in the iPad Pro range rather than replacing either of them.

Halide developer raves about iPhone 14 Pro camera

The developer of Halide, one of the finest pro camera apps on the App Store, has had their say about the iPhone 14 Pro. Sebastiaan de With of Lux said that “there are indeed some major changes” with the new 48MP sensor and larger ultra-wide, and that the front-facing camera enjoys “significant improvements in dynamic range, sharpness and quality”. Overall, the iPhone 14 Pro offers “a camera that performs in all ways closer to a ‘proper’ camera than any phone ever has”.
