Two huge franchises join forces for Disney Crossy Road

The highly popular Crossy Road game has had a major overhaul from new collaborators Disney, resulting in a game with such wide appeal it may just crash the App Store.

Disney Crossy Road is exactly what it sounds like. It takes the Frogger-inspired endless road-crossing gameplay and colorful ‘voxel’ graphics of the original iOS smash and, well, adds a whole bunch of Disney stuff. For an addictive freemium high-score based game with collectible characters, it seems like a perfect fit. It’s made by Hipster Whale, the studio behind the original game, and published by Disney.

Buzz Lightyear takes the reins in Al’s Toy Barn

Though the gameplay hasn’t changed much, in this version you can collect more than 100 playable characters from Disney and Pixar franchises. There are also nine distinct levels set amongst Disney locations from movies like Toy Story and the Lion King, each with its own set of additional challenges and obstacles to dodge. Oh, and 8-bit versions of classic Disney songs accompany the whole thing.

It’s a great bit of fan service, and the app is free. Though you can buy new characters with in-app purchases, like Crossy Road before it the whole game is based on a pretty fair freemium model that lets you unlock things at your own pace without spending any money. If you’re even a remote fan of Disney, it’s probably worth checking out.

You can download Disney Crossy Road on the App Store.
