Wallace & Gromit bring stop-motion wonder to Apple’s Battersea headquarters

  • by

London’s iconic Battersea Power Station, home to Apple’s UK headquarters since 2023, has been transformed into a festive wonderland by Wallace & Gromit. Until New Year’s Eve, the landmark’s towering chimneys will light up as 101-meter-high Christmas trees, complete with the duo’s signature charm and the antics of the mischievous Feathers McGraw.

The whimsical display was created by Aardman, the British animation studio behind Wallace & Gromit, using the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Over 6,000 frames of stop-motion animation were captured with the iPhone’s 5x Telephoto camera, later stitched together in 6K resolution.

“Shooting stop-motion with Wallace & Gromit and projecting it onto Battersea Power Station is a dream come true,” said Aardman’s Gavin Strange. Apple’s Greg Joswiak added, “It’s great to see such joy created with the most advanced iPhone we’ve ever made.” There’s even a fascinating Shot on iPhone video showing behind the scenes of the project.

Visitors can catch the display every evening from 5PM in London. Viewers can have a bash at creating their own animations using iPhone too. There are plenty of stop motion tools out there, but if you’re particularly inspired by Wallace & Gromit you may want to start with the Aardman Animator app and this 40-second tips video from director Gavin Strange.
