International Women’s Day – Apple spotlights female voices across its apps

Apple is celebrating International Women’s Day (March 8th) by curating a range of female-focused content and collections across its apps and services.

Some of these changes are in place for the whole of Women’s History Month, while others are just for this one day. Either way, explore any of Apple’s services and you’re bound to find a wealth of offerings celebrating the “social, economic, cultural, and political” achievements of women around the world.

Head to the App Store’s Today tab and you’ll find a bunch of stories and interviews spotlighting female creators, alongside an Apps Made By Women collection and a featured app and game of the day from a woman creator each day this month.

Apple Music and Apple Books join in the fun with curated collections, elevating women’s voices and influence. This is a great way to explore and discover new female creatives – in particular, check out the “Visionary Women” playlists in Apple Music, curated by stars including Cardi B, St. Vincent, Malorie Blackman, and Arlo Parks.

Fancy a bit of culture? Apple Maps is currently showcasing curated guides to show off the points of interest to make a fascinated female-focused city tour. And Apple Podcasts is highlighting “shows featuring powerful female voices” as well as shows from women-founded studios.

Apple News has been curating stories that “highlight diverse, inspiring figures from the past and present, lesser-known stories about women’s history, and the best journalism around key women’s issues” and adds to that for International Women’s Day with a spotlight on contemporary female leaders. The Apple TV app likewise is spotlighting the leading women of TV+ in addition to collections of “iconic and emerging voices”.

Apple’s Fitness+ service has pimped out 24 of its workouts with music playlists comprised of nothing but women, while Apple Watch users can earn a limited challenge award by recording a workout of 20+ minutes. Apple’s Research app, in partnership two public health bodies, is running a study on the relationship between menstrual cycles and various health conditions.

Finally, Today at Apple is running three virtual sessions “focused on redefining beauty and inclusion” from female creatives. If that interests you, sign up here – whether or not you’re a woman.
