Welcome to #211 – a note from the editor

Welcome to the latest issue of Swipe!

Once again we find ourselves with an issue sandwiched between two big Apple events. Last month, the iPhone 12 range was launched, and next week Apple is expected to unveil the first of its Apple Silicon Macs. In the meantime, we’ve got a whole bunch for you to dig into.

First of all is our cover story – the best weather apps for your iPhone. Though these apps are all winners in their own right, the context for this roundup is Apple’s buyout and planned shutdown of our favorite weather app Dark Sky. With that app out of the picture, what’s your best bet for replacing it? Check out the Reviews section for the answer to that question and much more besides.

Our twin Features this issue take a deeper dive into recent announcements. Firstly, we’re looking at the importance of the futuristic LiDAR scanner included in Apple’s latest iPhone range. Secondly, we’re making the argument that this year more than ever, Apple’s mid-range devices are a better proposition than ever, with the expensive Pro models losing some key differentiators.

Elsewhere, we’ve got all the latest iPhone and iPad stories for you to catch up on in the News section and some choice tutorials over in the How-To section. Enjoy!
