Welcome to #348: A note from the editor

Welcome back to a packed issue of Swipe. A lot has happened in Apple-land since last time.

The company released two surprisingly affordable products this week – an updated entry-level iPhone and an all-new MacBook, both at $599. That’s budget for a laptop and mid-range for a phone. Neither is perfect, but for the right kind of buyer they stack up remarkably well. It’s nice to see Apple finally targeting this end of the market after years of premium-only everything.

Beyond all that news coverage, this issue is something of a photography special. We’ve revisited our best camera apps roundup, and there are some absolute corkers on there if you’re looking to graduate from the default Camera. Speaking of which – if you caught last issue, you’ll know I’ve been building my own camera app. It launched earlier this week, and I’m talking about it a bit more over in Reviews.

We’re also looking at alternatives to iCloud Photos for different storage needs. It’s not something most people think to question, but it might be worth a look.

All that and more – enjoy.
