No time to drop into the Apple Store and ask the Genius Bar for help with your iPhone or iPad? Maybe one of our resident experts can help!
As Apple nerds, we get asked a lot of tech support questions – and some of those questions crop up time and time again. Here’s a recent query that we think will be familiar to many of you.
“Is it possible to record a video of my screen along with a live voiceover?”
It sure is! Screen recording is one of those settings that’s only accessible from an obscure place, and turned off by default – so don’t feel bad if you haven’t found it. You can’t record screen captures from the Camera or Photos app, as you might expect.
Instead, open Settings and head to Control Center. Here you can customize the buttons that appear in the overlay. Tap the green + next to Screen Recording to ensure it’s included.
Once that’s done, open Control Center by swiping down from the top-right of the screen (or up from the bottom if you have an old-style Home-buttoned device). Long-press the newly-added Screen Recording button for more options, and make sure you toggle Microphone on. This allows you to narrate over what’s happening on screen.
Tap Start Recording and after a three-second countdown, the capture will begin.
You’ll know it’s working because you’ll see a red recording indicator in the status bar. When you’re done, tap this button to end the recording. It will automatically be saved to your camera roll in the Photos app.
