Safari’s Reader view is great. It transforms cluttered webpages into a clean, easy-to-read format, stripping away distracting ads, banners, and unnecessary visuals. If you frequently find yourself using the Reader, you might prefer having Safari enable it automatically.
First, a quick reminder. To turn on Reader manually, long press the page settings button to the left of the web address in Safari, or short press it and choose Show Reader. But enough about boring manual work – Safari lets you automatically activate Reader View for specific websites or even across all compatible sites by default. Here’s how.
For specific websites
To automatically use Reader on a specific website, tap the page settings button, then tap the … button. From here, simply toggle on Use Reader Automatically. Safari will now switch to the Reader view every time you visit that particular website, no matter which article or page you’re viewing within the site.
Reader everywhere
If you’d rather enable Reader View for all compatible websites automatically, head to your iPhone’s main Settings app. Scroll down and select Apps, then tap Safari. Look for the Reader option and toggle on “All Websites.” With this enabled, Safari will automatically activate Reader View whenever it’s supported.
It’s worth noting that Reader View isn’t available for every website – sites with lots of interactive content or dynamic elements might not display properly in this simplified mode. If a page isn’t compatible, you’ll simply see the regular version. No need to toggle modes at all.
Customization
You can further personalize your reading experience by adjusting its appearance. Within Reader, tap the page settings button again, and you’ll find options to change text size, select different fonts, and switch background colors to suit your lighting conditions and personal preferences. You can even press Listen to Page to have it read aloud to you.
