Calzy 3 guide: reuse numbers for smarter calculations

Calzy 3 is a calculator app like no other. It’s jam-packed with features which set it apart from other calculators on the App Store. In this tutorial, we’re going to look at two of the app’s best features: memory area and bookmarks.

First off, of course, you’ll need to download the app if you don’t already have it. Calzy 3 is a smart calculator that is way above and beyond what the default iOS calculator is capable of. And we don’t mean it can do a bunch of technical mathematical stuff that you’ll never use; we mean it has a bunch of features that make it a genuinely useful tool you’ll keep coming back to. It’s one of our favorite apps of the past year, and it costs $3/£3.

Get Calzy

One of our favorite things about Calzy is that it can remember previous calculations. One way the app retains this information is through something called a memory area. This dedicated, invisible space sits along the top of the screen in Calzy, and allows users to drag and drop numbers there to reuse later.

Numbers can be stored at the top of the screen in an invisible space called the “memory area”

Storing a number in the memory area is as simple as dragging and dropping it. You can save several numbers there and can add them into a calculation by dragging them back over – or you can remove the number from the memory area by dragging it to the trash can icon.

Stored numbers will rack up next to one another as you add more

Bookmarks, on the other hand, allow users of Calzy 3 to retain calculations for longer. Bookmarks are perfectly suited for working out what someone might owe you, for instance, since the information can be stored until you choose to remove it.

Usefully, your notes appear alongside bookmarked calculations in order to remind you what the calculation was

To add a bookmark, complete a calculation and then use 3D Touch to press down firmly on the equals icon. (Older devices can perform a long-press instead.) Here, a pop-up will appear with the option of adding a bookmark and choosing a note to assign the calculation. The clock icon (which you can use to access your calculation history) will reveal your bookmarks in a list, alongside any notes you’ve made.

You can add a bookmark by performing a 3D Touch on the equals icon.

Usefully, bookmarks can be shared, locked, or added to a calculation via a swipe-to-the-left gesture. You can also delete bookmarks or add a label by swiping in the opposite direction.

So there you have it: for a smarter calculator experience, take Calzy 3 for a spin and start using the memory area and bookmarks. Both are great features which could take your calculations to the next level.
