How to merge purchases between two Apple Accounts (Apple IDs)

  • Learn if your two accounts qualify to be merged
  • How to move everything into one account
  • The catches worth knowing before you commit

If your purchases are scattered across more than one Apple Account (formerly known as Apple ID), don’t worry – there’s a way to merge them back together. Apple lets you migrate everything into a single account, and since 2025 that includes users from the UK and EU.

You might have one iCloud account for email, a separate Apple Account from an old business, or a legacy iTunes account that bought all your apps and music years ago. Whatever the reason, you can now migrate a secondary account into your primary one and consolidate it all into a single library for good.
There are strict eligibility requirements, though, and one region still misses out: it’s not currently available in India.

Eligibility

Before you start, both accounts need to be signed into the same iPhone or iPad. Open Settings and tap your name at the top. If a different Apple Account is listed under Media & Purchases, you’ve already got two accounts in use. If not, tap Media & Purchases > Sign Out, then sign back in with the account that holds the purchases you want to move.

From there, you’ll need to tick off the following:

1. Both accounts set to the same country or region

2. Two-factor authentication turned on for both

3. Any balance on the secondary account spent

4. The payment method on the secondary account verified and free of issues

5. Any rentals or pre-orders finished

6. Both your iPhone or iPad updated to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS

A couple of catches need a little more explaining. The secondary account can’t be a member of a Family Sharing group – with one exception: you’re fine if you’d previously set it up as a separate account to share purchases for your primary one. And if you’re in the EU, South Korea, or China mainland, purchases made using your account balance can take up to 15 days to fully process before you migrate.

One more, mostly for the developers reading: if your secondary account is signed into TestFlight, you’ll need to open the app and tap Stop Testing on each app first.

Migration

Once everything’s ready, head to Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases > View Account > Migrate Purchases. Review the details for both accounts, confirm your payment method, and Apple will start the process.

When it’s done, you’ll see a “Purchases Have Been Migrated” message, and both accounts get a confirmation email. The secondary Apple Account can no longer be used for media purchases. At that point, sign out of it on every other device – Apple TV, HomePod, and anything running Apple Music or the Apple TV app – then sign back in with your primary account. If songs go missing from your library, turn on Sync Library in Apple Music.

Considerations

Purchase migration is a great feature for anyone juggling multiple Apple Accounts, but it has limits. If both accounts have their own music library data, migration isn’t allowed. And while you can undo a migration, doing so locks you out of trying again for a full year – so it’s worth being sure before you commit.
