Certified Refurbished: Apple refines storefront for discount products

  • by

Apple has revamped theĀ Certified Refurbished section of its online store, making it much easier for customers to get discounts on like-new devices.

Refurbished products have been available through Apple’s official store for years, but historically they were tucked away in a neglected and hard-to-find part of the website. This move brings the section in line with the modern design of the rest of the store and should help to promote sales of refurbished products.

Everything sold as part of the Certified Refurbished store has been thoroughly quality checked by Apple. As part of the refurbishing process, devices get a full inspection, a serious cleaning, and often some internal parts are replaced to offer as close to a “new” feel as possible. Everything comes with Apple’s standard one-year warranty.

Though you may find a cheaper and more diverse selection of refurbished products from Amazon Renewed, if you prefer to shop directly from the source then Apple Certified Refurbished is your best way to save a bit of money.

At the time of writing, Apple is offering an iPhone 8 for $499, a 10.5-inch iPad Pro for $549, and a 21.5-inch iMac for $929. All of these equate to pretty decent savings of $100 or more on the retail price, though beware that many products featured here are from a few years ago and might not provide as much value-for-money as the newer models, despite being cheaper.

That said, astute customers will surely find some good deals here that can help ease the sting of buying expensive new tech.

It’s no surprise that this change has happened in the build-up to the holidays, and just days after Apple kicked into gear its extended returns policy that will last right up until Christmas.
