More from the App Store – great apps you might have missed [8 October 2021]

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Pearl: Wellness Reminders [Free, $1.99/£1.99 Premium]

Pearl is a love-it-or-hate-it app that has the potential to be a great motivational tool to those with a certain mindset. It’s all about setting meaningful, visually appealing reminders that will then pop up randomly throughout the day, supplying encouragement and calmness when you might just need it most. Pearl initially rolled out in June, but quite recently went free to download, with a one-off payment in place to unlock the full premium experience.

Game of the Week

Svoboda 1945: Liberation [$6.99/£5.99]

A seriously affecting narrative adventure that uses full-motion video interviews with real actors, historically accurate interactive memories, and a multiple-choice narrative to tell the tale of a small European village swept up in the chaos of World War II, as well as its turbulent aftermath. Written in cooperation with a team of professional historians, Svoboda 1945: Liberation goes further than most games in its authentic portrayal of the horrors of war.

Halide Mark II – Pro Camera [Free]

We’ve featured Halide before as our chosen App Store Oldie, and we even awarded the latest Mark II iteration a full five-star rating. It’s worthy of another mention, not because it’s one of the best and most intuitive pro camera apps on the App Store (which it is), but because Halide 2.5 adds the ability to capture sharp macro shots. This means that even those without an iPhone 13 Pro can capture detailed close-ups.
