It’s found itself on practically every other platform, including an MS-DOS addition, but Retro City Rampage DX, a parody game based on Grand Theft Auto’s top-down beginnings, elevated through 80s cliches and Back to the Future references has now found its way to the iPhone and iPad.
Priced at $4.99, players can enjoy the fun of the original Grand Theft Auto titles. There is a story mode, where your character named simply ‘Player’ has to complete missions, find objects, travel through time – you know, the usual stuff. Elsewhere there are also free-play versions where you can roam the open-world streets, stealing cars, running things down etc.
We’ve given the game a pretty decent run down after it appeared on the App Store and it’s a hell of a lot of fun. The pace is almost obscenely fast; dizzying at times, and messy in the most charming sense of the world.
So, if you want a bit of free-for-all retro-action, then give Retro City Rampage DX a shot.
