Apple ID set to become “Apple Account” later this year

Take a good look at your Apple ID, it might not be around much longer.

According to multiple sources, including Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to rebrand the account to, well, Apple Account.

Apple ID has long been the top-level user account that unifies everything Apple. It stores personal information, syncs data between devices with iCloud, and allows you to make purchases in the App Store and iTunes. It’s also tied to all Apple services, like Music, TV+, and so on.

With so many broad purposes under its belt beyond user verification, it makes sense to move on from the Apple ID moniker. For new users, “Apple Account” would do a much better job of describing its purpose, and it seems as though Apple is keen to simplify things.

It’s expected that the change will roll out later this year, perhaps in sync with the release of iOS 18 this September. We’re likely to hear more about it at WWDC in June.
