The FBI and Apple are both investigating the theft of celebrity photos following the leak of hundreds of personal photos via the website 4chan’s image boards.
A hacker claimed to have used iCloud to download the images, which has prompted an investigation by Apple, which, in a statement said it “takes user privacy very seriously and is actively investigating the report”.
Meanwhile, FBI spokeperson Laura Eimiller confirmed the agency’s investigation with the following statement:
“[The FBI is] aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions and the unlawful release of material involving high profile individuals, and is addressing the matter. Any further comment would be inappropriate at this time.”
Analysis of photo exif data and other information has not identified iCloud as the source with complete certainty.
