Apple Music adds new features including focus music and playlist transfers

Apple Music users have two fresh reasons to tune in, with recent updates introducing new wellness-focused content and easier ways to switch from other streaming services.

Sound Therapy

First up is Sound Therapy, a novel audio collection designed to boost your daily well-being. Unlike traditional white noise or simple nature sounds, Sound Therapy blends scientifically developed sound waves with specially reimagined tracks from popular artists like Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, Ludovico Einaudi, and Kacey Musgraves.

Users can choose from three tailored categories (Focus, Relax, and Sleep) each aimed at enhancing productivity, calming stress, or improving sleep quality. Apple has also expanded its relaxation offerings by launching a dedicated Apple Music Chill radio station, perfect for creating laid-back atmospheres at home or work.

Transfer Playlists

Meanwhile, Apple is making it simpler than ever for new subscribers to move their playlists and music collections from other streaming platforms to Apple Music. Currently available to users in Australia and New Zealand as part of an extended testing phase before a global rollout (later this year, we assume), this new transfer feature is integrated directly into Apple Music through a partnership with SongShift – a popular playlist transfer service we’ve praised in previous guides.

Users can transfer their favorite songs, albums, and personally curated playlists from services like Spotify by simply navigating to the Apple Music settings on their iPhone or iPad (or even their Android device!) and selecting Transfer Music from Other Music Services. Apple will then match tracks from the original platform with songs available in its own library. In cases where exact matches aren’t found, users will be given alternate suggestions labeled as Needs Review.

Though they’re not going to set the world alight, these two features definitely bolster the appeal of Apple Music and are worth checking out if you’re already subscribed.
