Apple Music offer – get 5 months free with Shazam

  • by

A new promotion is offering a free five month subscription to Apple Music for new users.

Right through to January 17, 2021, anyone who hasn’t signed up to Apple Music before can get five months of free access. All you need to do to take advantage of this offer is download the Shazam app from the App Store and use it in the way it was intended – to recognize songs playing nearby.

Simply open the app, tap the Shazam icon while a song is playing in the background, and as soon as the app has recognized the tune you’ll receive an option to play the song in Apple Music. Tap through and you should receive the offer of a free five-month Apple Music subscription.

The only catch is that this offer is for new customers only. So if you don’t see the offer, it’s likely that you’ve already subscribed to Apple’s music streaming service at some point in the past. This is actually quite likely, as Apple has run numerous free trials over the years in a bid to chase down market leader Spotify.

This latest Apple Music offer is available to new users in the US, Great Britain, Canada, and Australia, among others.

If you’re unfamiliar with Shazam, it’s a clever little tool that recognizes and identifies almost any music that’s playing in the background. It has worked its way deeper and deeper into iOS over the years, and it’s now possible to access Shazam’s core functionality simply by asking Siri ‘What’s playing?’ when you hear a tune you like.

Indeed, Apple liked Shazam so much, it eventually acquired the app in September 2018.

One of our favourite shortcuts in iOS 14 is to make Shazam accessible by simply double or triple-tapping on the back of our iPhone, using the Back Tap accessibility function. Give it a try.
