Apple Watch Series 3 coming – won’t feature new design, internal improvements only

Apple intends to launch a third edition of its Watch this fall. If reports are to be believed, a new edition will arrive in September.

The news comes via Chinese paper Economic Daily News, but it says that Apple will retain the device’s form factor for another edition – the Watch will feature internal changes only. This will include better performance, i.e. a faster processor, and a longer battery life.

The revelations will disappoint Apple fans that have held off on the smartwatch due to the design. However, further rumors have suggested future editions will features a FaceTime camera, new fitness sensors and a haptic engine for the Watch band.

However, that may still not sway some users, and it remains to be seen as to whether Apple has design changes in mind further down the line.

If Apple does release a new version this September, it will indicate that the device has moved onto an annual refresh cycle, like the iPhone. There was just shy of 18 months between the first and second editions of the Watch.
