Apple’s recently released Beats 1 radio station is already grabbing the scoops – it’s been revealed that it will exclusively announce the MTV Video Music Award nominees. It looks like the music television channel is aware of Apple’s sizeable radio audience as the information will be revealed there even before MTV itself.
The announcement was made via the Beats 1 Twitter feed, which revealed the nominees will be unveiled Tuesday 21 July at 7AM PT/10AM ET. That time slot is home to the Beats 1 chart show hosted by Brooke Reece and Travis Mills.

The MTV Video Music Award honors the best in the music video medium, and draws millions of viewers during its televised awards ceremony towards the end of the summer. Last year, Miley Cyrus’ video for ‘Wrecking Ball’ won the Video of the Year prize.
Beats 1 was launched on 30 June with a show presented by Zane Lowe, shortly after the release of iOS 8.4, which came with a redesigned Music app and Apple Music – Apple’s music streaming service. While Music is a paid-for subscription service, Beats 1 is a free-to-listen station.
Apple recently revealed that the release of Apple Music drove massive early adoption of iOS 8.4. Voting for the VMAs opens via the VMA website an hour after the nominees are revealed on Beats 1.
