Every year, Apple hands out its coveted Design Awards to another batch of apps and games that excel in various fields. This year, the company has decided to reveal the winners – and a huge selection of finalists – before WWDC, rather than during the week-long conference.
Apple says each finalist displayed “innovation, ingenuity, and technical achievement” and there are some absolute corkers in the mix this year. There are plenty we wrote about over the past year – see Opal, PBJ: The Musical, Balatro, Ground News, Mela – alongside plenty more we’re excited to try.
For the full list of winners and finalists, head to the Apple Design Awards microsite. Here you can read Apple’s reasoning behind every win, check out the other finalists, and even get a behind-the-scenes look at the design process.
Of course, we at TapSmart run our own app awards at the end of each year, and there’s a bit of overlap between the two selection. Apple’s choice for the best game in the Delight and Fun category (Balatro, as shown above) also made our list of finalists – but the other picks we made don’t feature here. So if you want to see some excellent apps that slipped through Apple’s net, be sure to check out the TapSmart awards too!
