iPhone 6: the most popular iPhone ever

The iPhone 6 is already a hit in North America

With a headline that you could just as well have seen on The Onion in response to an over-hyped release, you might assume this is a joke. Well, it might not be – it seems that the iPhone 6 has fast become the most popular version of the iPhone yet. And it hasn’t even been released.

The news comes via a huge survey conducted by 451 Research showing that ‘advanced interest’ for the iPhone 6 in North America is well above what it was for the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5 prior to their release. As the image above shows, 40% of 4,109 consumers that took part in the survey noted that they were likely to buy the next version of the iPhone, expected in September. Comparatively, only 33% said that of the iPhone 5 and 26% for the iPhone 5s, which also demonstrates a fall in enthusiasm for Apple’s mid-way iPhone releases.

Also notable, is that the surveys for each device were conducted prior to an official announcement. However, respondents were asked to assume rumors of a larger screen would be true, alongside the inclusion of a faster processor.

The iPhone 6 looks set to be the most in-demand iPhone ever

“This is the highest level of demand for an unannounced Apple model in a ChangeWave survey – stronger than we’ve seen in previous years for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5 models prior to their announcements,” said Andy Golub at 451 Research. “Speculation over a larger screen iPhone is clearly striking a chord with consumers.”

The iPhone 6 is expected to arrive in September following an announcement at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference 2014 which runs between 2-6 June.
