Latest release rumors – what’s Apple planning this year?

Apple releases new iPhones on a predictable yearly cycle, and so we can be confident we’ll see the iPhone 15 hit the shelves this September. But what about Apple’s other products that don’t stick to a consistent schedule? Let’s take a look at what the next year might bring for iPad and Mac fans by rounding up all the rumors and reports we can find this week.

MacBook Air

Apple’s yearly WWDC event rolls around in June, and though it typically only covers new software, we do sometimes see new hardware unveiled at the opening keynote.

At this year’s WWDC, we might just see a new 15-inch MacBook Air powered by the upcoming M3 processing chip. It’s unclear whether the 13-inch MacBook Air would get a similar upgrade.

Another report agrees on the device details but suggests the release window might even be as soon as April.

iMac

Meanwhile, the next iteration of the iMac is said to be in an “advanced stage of development,” although it’s not expected to break much new ground.

Apple will almost certainly upgrade its next iMac with the M3 chip, but reports state the form factor, display sizes, and color options will remain the same. Keep an eye out for release in the second half of the year, most likely a month or two after September’s iPhone event.

iPad Pro

Yet another device expected to be upgraded to the M3 chip is Apple’s iPad Pro, although we don’t anticipate a release until early 2024.

Apple could add new OLED displays to boost iPad Pro even further, although we’d love to see more freedom given to iPadOS to let users take advantage of all that power. Even the M1 iPad Pro is arguably overkill for many users.

iPhone

We’ve already covered plenty of rumors on the upcoming iPhone 15 and 15 Pro. There have been leaked photos of the base model, while the Pro model is expected to feature a titanium frame, periscope camera, and no physical buttons. It’s almost certain that both will switch from Lightning ports to USB-C.

But there may yet be a minor change for the iPhone 14 line too, with a new yellow colorway anticipated for release this Spring. Apple has history with mid-year color updates, introducing Purple and Alpine Green in Spring 2021 and 2022 respectively.

[EDIT: Just a few hours after we reported this last rumor, it came true! The new yellow iPhone 14 is now available.]
