The Netflix Original Stranger Things made waves when its 10-episode first season arrived on the streaming platform last year. Fans praised its aesthetic – loyal to 80s music, film and style – so it’s little surprise that a brand new iOS based on the show is just as faithful.
The second season doesn’t air until October 27, but in the run up, Netflix has launched Stranger Things: The Game, which is entirely free – lacking IAPs and micro-transactions. But what it doesn’t appear to lack is imagination. The game is a full-on RPG title, in 2D, with a suitably 8-bit soundtrack. The pixel approach has been seen plenty of times on iOS before, but it’s great to see a retro-success like Stranger Things do the same job just as well.
In the game, you play as the characters Hopper, Nancy and Lucas, with whom you explore a number of locations familiar to viewers of the show. Throughout the game you have to fight enemies, avoid the cops and solve a number of puzzles.
