Super Mario Run, Nintendo’s first iOS game proper (can you really count Miitomo?) has surfaced ahead of its December 15 debut – but only in Apple Stores.
In Apple’s retail shops around the world, the hotly anticipated auto-runner featuring everyone’s favorite Italian plumber has been loaded on to devices at special demo stations.
The move was announced on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight show on Wednesday night, which featured Mario’s founder Shigeru Miyamoto.
Ahead of the announcement, Miyamoto also spoke to The Verge about Mario’s imminent arrival on Apple’s platform: “I feel like Mario was what introduced millions of people to video games and interactive entertainment, and I think that Mario will continue to serve that role,” he said. “And I think with Super Mario Run that’s exactly what’s going to happen.”

Mario will arrive on iOS on December 15 as a free download. The game has a single, one-off IAP of $9.99 which will unlock all three game modes.
