Despite a slowing economy that may have prevented China from taking over as Apple’s largest market place for hardware, it hasn’t stopped a spending increase of 500 percent in the App Store over the last two years in the region. The result is that it has now taken over the US as the largest source of software revenue for Apple.
The figures come from App Annie, an App Store data aggregator. In a report, picked up by 9to5Mac, App Annie says that China is now leading the US by over 15 percent in the store. In third place is Japan.
Furthermore, despite being only 25 percent of total apps, games are generating 75 percent of revenue.
Apple, of course, is well aware of the market’s importance and is currently working towards two R&D centers in the country.
