CARROT Weather at 10: cloudy with a chance of show tunes

  • by

It’s rare to find a big, successful, genuinely useful app that still pushes weird boundaries after a decade. But CARROT Weather is celebrating its 10th birthday in the most CARROT way possible – by breaking into song. The latest update introduces CARROT: The Musical, a tongue‑in‑cheek, Broadway‑style production you can unlock one track at a time simply by checking the forecast each day.

Get CARROT Weather

It’s a ridiculous, completely unnecessary addition to a weather app – and I’m so glad it exists. Download the app now to listen to opening song “Humans,” a surprisingly punchy number about the “flimsiest special of them all.” Tap … > CARROT > Soundtrack to keep track of unlocked songs.

CARROT’s new look

Crucially, this release isn’t just about show tunes. CARROT has been refreshed with a sprinkling of liquid glass design elements that feel right at home on iOS 26. There’s also a new chatbot powered by Apple’s on‑device AI model, so you can ask CARROT natural‑language questions about the weather – or go off‑piste and get snarky, funny replies about anything else.

Embrace your robotic overlords

True to form, the update hides a few more goodies around the map, including secret locations, horoscopes, and trivia. None of these features are particularly important if you just want to check today’s forecast, but they are charming if you’ve got the time to explore them. Solo developer Brian Mueller keeps layering in quirky, thoughtful surprises without compromising the app’s real draw: fast, reliable weather forecasts with amazing customization options for subscribers.

After ten years, CARROT remains one of our favorite ways to check the forecast. It’s a shining example of what a dedicated solo developer can do that bigger companies often don’t – ship a consistently brilliant app with equal parts common sense and fun. See you in 2035, CARROT!
