Apple to change News app displays ads offering to include ads that look like regular articles

Apple’s taking further steps to monetize its News app – a new document has surfaced indicating Apple will start offering inline-ads in its news content aggregator app.

The app, which was released as part of iOS 9 in 2015 allows users to pull together content from various news sources into one app. However, Apple’s been actively investigating how to offer ads to businesses in new ways. After reports suggested it might contain paywalled articles at some point, it’s now offering native ads that will sit amongst regular news articles. The design and content style will be the same as regular articles that featuring in the apps. The only difference will be a “sponsored” byline.

No doubt users will have varying opinions on the intrusiveness or evasive nature of these new ads, while others may see it as a natural way to monetize the platform.
