iPhone 8 rumors: Water resistance to improve on 2017 device (by half a meter)

The next-generation iPhone will improve on the water resistance introduced in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus new rumors suggest.

In a breakaway from what we’ve seen so far, which has mostly reiterated the glass/steel chassis and wireless charging capabilities, a new report from the Korea Herald suggests the water resistance capability on the ‘iPhone 8’ will go from IP67 to IP68.

What does that mean? Essentially, an extra half a meter. IP67 meant the iPhone 7 could withstand being immersed in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. If the rumor proves true, the iPhone 8 will be able to stand in water of up to 1.5 meters in depth for 30 minutes.

The report also notes that Samsung’s next big release – the Galaxy S8 – will also have an IP68 rating.
